Biography

From high school I went into the U.S. Navy's advanced electronics program and served a little over four years onboard the submarine U.S.S. Florida. After the Navy I went on to earn a Bachelor's in Business from Western Baptist College (now Corban College) and a Master's in Computer Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University Graduate School of Computer and Information Science. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University. Sandwiched in between the Navy and the teaching that I am currently doing I ran my own manufacturing business for nearly seven years and spent a couple of years as a site manager for a contract company providing telephony and IT support services to the Hewlett-Packard campus in Corvallis, Oregon.

Teaching Philosophy

Learning is not always easy. My father dropped out of high school, so education was never a big priority when I was a kid. My wife graduated from college just before we got married and that motivated me to pursue my own education. Because of work and family responsibilities I took 14 years to finish my undergraduate degree. It was a lot of hard work, but it was well worth it. As I pursued my own education I discovered that I love to learn. The French philosopher Joseph Joubert said, "To teach is to learn twice." I teach because I love to learn, I love to share what I learn, and I love to help and watch others learn.
